“Let Yourself Go” from “Follow the Fleet"

Hi All -

This is a Fred and Ginger movie which is not one of their best efforts, but contains a great score by Irving Berlin, and the dancing is peerless. RKO deemed that Astaire’s white tie and tails suggested upper class opulence, which seemed inappropriate during height of the Great Depression, so they attired Fred as Cracker Jack sailor and had him chew gum to disguise him as a “regular” guy.

Fred, who was a truly elegant dresser, still looks elegant in dress blue bell bottoms, as he and Ginger get into a furious dance contest to Berlin’s “Let Yourself Go.”

FOLLOW THE FLEET directed by Mark Sandrich (1936 110 min.)
