P. S. You would not be reading this blog if you did not like movie musicals, so let me urge you to catch La La Land in a theater. It is one of the best movie musicals ever! It is a valentine to the great movie musicals of the  ’50’s and a love song to the city of Los Angeles. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone sing, dance (and Ryan had to learn to play the piano) and these two  have enormous movie star chemistry. Although an old fashioned homage, the movie is quite modern. The director, a 31 year old kid, insisted in shooting the movie on film and in Cinemascope, so the color palette is rich and vibrant like those 50’s movie musicals. In addition, he insisted on doing most scenes using just one camera in just one uninterrupted take. Amazing. It is a really wonderful film and the music is terrific. But try to catch it in a movie theater. The opening scene on a traffic snarled LA freeway is alone worth the $14 ducat. Here is the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pdqf4P9MB8
